Happy Birthday to Me!
Today is Neon Bible’s 1st birthday as a beauty and fashion blog and I am very excited. I’ve had this domain for several years, and others before that, but I had been using the site in other ways. But today marks one year since I turned this space into a blog about fashion, beauty and more recently, the city of Vancouver, which turned out to be a great decision.
While Neon Bible may not qualify for the upper echelons of beauty blogs, it has given me some great opportunities to meet people, talk about stuff that I love and develop fans. There have even been as few free products along the way, of which I am very grateful for.
Unfortunately I don’t have a cake to share with all of you who have supported the site on this very special occasion, but I do have a cookie recipe! Little known fact is that I’m obsessed with baking, especially around Spring (for reasons I can’t explain). While these are technically my Easter cookies, today they’re going to be Neon Bible Birthday cookies, and they will blow your mind.
Neon Bible Birthday Cookies
1 cup butter
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/4 cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup oatmeal
1 1/2 cups crushed mini eggs OR 1 1/4 cup whole mini mini eggs
Preheat the over to 375 degrees. Mix the flour, salt and baking soda together. Seperatly mix the butter, sugar until creamy (I reccomend microwaving them together for 30 seconds). Add the vanilla and eggs. Blend the wet and dry ingredients together. Add the oatmeal and mini eggs.
Place your lil’ cookie balls on an ungreased cookie sheet and stick a mini egg on top.
Bake for 10-12 minutes.
Enjoy!
I Want This Look
Lindsay Lohan is so two years ago. My current fashion icon is the always original, and always slightly scary Mary-Kate. I would be lying if I said i didn’t spend hours procrastinating online at Olsen-Fan.net looking at pictures and jotting down what she’s wearing on my “Thing I Want” list.
Her current look that I’m obsessing over is the chic grunge look, which could also be called I spent the night with my boyfriend, then stole his shirt, and now I’m just going to Starbs and running errands and looking sweet doing it look.
In order to get this look, I have added to my “Things I Want” list, the following items: Shiny black leggings from American Apparel, Black opaque tights, fun bracelets and rings from Ardene, and a “boyfriend” shirt from Urban Outfitters. So basically everything.
What do you think of Mary-Kate’s style?
Sex and the City Style
There’s no doubt that the Dior Extreme Gladiator Sandles that Carrie was seen wearing multiple times during Sex and the City are the must have shoes of the summer. There’s also no doubt that I could never afford these $800 shoes on student sized allowance my parents give me.
Luckily, there’s an alternative.Steve Madden who are famous for ripping of designer styles have released their own gladiator, and I think I even like them a little more than the original. The $109 price tag also helps.
These shoes are currently available for pre-order online, yet no word on their website when exactly they’re going to be released in stores.
The New Kid in Town
Ahoy there mates, I’m Jacks. I’ll be contributing a few articles from time to time, mostly about cosmetics. I knew I was hooked ever since my mom caught me trying out her roll-on lip gloss at the age of 3. Some of my makeup pet peeves are excessive use of fake tanner and chipped manicures.
So, now that the “getting to know you” stage has passed, let the reviewing begin! If you have any questions or products you would like me to review, ask away.
I’m Not Dead
Its true, I’ve returned.
It’s been about a year, maybe more since I’ve been in the “blogopshere” (Do people still use that word? Has a new term been invented in my absence?). You would think that my life of non-stop excitement as an English major would give me oodles to blog about. That time that I got a bingo on Scrabulous, the week I marathoned the entire series of Veronica Mars, or how about the epic week of 5 essays? You get the idea.
But recently, I have felt a biting urge to return to the beloved blogopsphere (seriously is there no new name for that yet?). But since my life is well, less than bloggable at the moment, I’ve decided to focus my efforts on my first love (besides tv marathons), and that would be the wonderful world of fashion.
Yes, I live of 300 dollars a month from my parents, but over the years I’ve learned tips and tricks to being fashionable when you’re dirt poor; where to shop, what to splurge on, and where to skimp.
So I’m back. And with the help of a few friends, I’m going to try my hand at the art of “beauty blogging,” but with my own little twist. Join me won’t you?
