How to Build a Wedding Day Emergency Kit
Yesterday my best bud and fellow Neon Bible writer Roni got married! To keep things running smoothly from hair appointment to hora, the other bridesmaids and I made her a Wedding Day Survival Kit, or as we called it a Just in Case Case
Included was:
- Q-tips
- eye makeup remover pads
- aloe vera wetnaps
- body lotion
- mini deodorant - make sure it’s clear!
- bobby pins
- moleskin - very important. we all put this on our feet before the ceremony.
- clear nail polish - to repair cracks and hang nails
- hair spray
- Pepto Bismol
- Gravol
- Advil
- Lint roller with pet hair protector
- Tide to go - very useful, especially after the bride fell down during her “running” photos
- compact mirror
- scissors
If you’re going to make a Just in Case Case for your bride, brainstorm with your bridesmaids and make a list, then figure out who’s going to get what. Don’t forget a cute basket or tote.
Neon Bible’s Valentine’s Day Gift Guide Part III
While we’re on the subject of men’s skin care, let’s talk a little bit about hands.
My boyfriend is obsessed with nail care… in all the wrong ways. He has one nail clipper, for toe nails, which he uses to trim all the white off of his nails, and then ugh, his hang nails. He always rips them off, and the wrong way too so it just makes them worse. It’s just gross.

If your boyfriend or husband suffers from this same affliction, maybe it’s time for him to have his own… dare I say… manicure kit!
The Body Shop offers a simple little kit for $18 CAD that includes scissors, a clipper, a file and a cuticle pusher. It’s simple, not the least bit overwhelming, plus, it comes in unisex packaging so not to put anyone off.
While you’re at the Body Shop, why not pick up an Almond Oil Nail and Cuticle Pen to go along with your kit. My boyfriend hates the idea of hand moisturizer, so his hands and nails are always incredibly dry. This little stick works wonders on nails and fingertips and drys pretty quickly leaving no goopy residue so your boyfriend will have no excuses not to keep his nails in shape.
For only $12 CAD it’s worth it.
What are you going to be getting your boyfriend or husband for Valentine’s Day this year?
Neon Bible’s Valentine’s Day Gift Guide Part II
Valentine’s day is coming soon, and while many of us have already picked out our outfit, our eyeshadow colour palette and our perfume for our special evening, we still haven’t decided on a present for our boyfriend, and no, a Kinder Surprise gift pack doesn’t count.
This year, I’m going out on a limb and getting my boyfriend… beauty products! Or I guess I should say “grooming products.” A crappy West Coast winter has left everyone’s skin dry and crackly, even those who are moisturizing. I don’t think it’s fair that men should have to suffer though the pains of crappy skin just because they don’t know any better or are worried about being spotted at the drug store looking confused with a handful of women’s moisturizers.
So, for the boyfriend who needs help but doesn’t know where to start, I recommend getting him some Anthony Logistics for Men Oil Free Moisturizer. It’s lightweight and oil free, which is incredibly important in a men’s moisturizer, as guys usually are incredibly averse to goopy products and don’t like the feeling that there is something actually on their skin. It’s a little steep at $34 CAD but your boyfriend or husband will thank you for it.
If you’re in the Vancouver area, Anthony Logistics products are available at Beauty Mark in Yaletown and Momentum Grooming on Burrard.
Neon Bible’s Valentines Day Gift Guide I
Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, which means no excuses to show up to your date in yoga pants with a Terry’s Chocolate Orange left over from Christmas. Obviously this blog is read pretty much exclusively by women, which means this probably won’t be a problem, but it’s still fun to plan ahead.
Check out what Lush has to offer for Valentine’s day.
I’m loving this Sex Bomb bath bomb. From the website: Romantic pink water and an incredibly sexy jasmine fragrance set the mood… and once the rice paper rose petals fill your tub, there’s no holding back! This is also a great gift for those who plan to spend their Valentine’s day alone, crying alone in the bath with a bottle of wine. If you’re going to be sad and dramatic, then you might as well do it in pink water.
Plus, it’s only only $6.00 CAD so you really have no excuse.
Next, check out the Soft Coeur massage bar. From the website: Prepare to get messy with this deliciously romantic concoction of honey, cocoa and natural melty butters, designed for warm, sensual, full-body massages.
I’m a sucker for any sort of bath or beauty product that looks like food, so this is perfect for me as it looks like a big heart shaped cookies and cream bar.
Lush is also offering some more expensive gift packs priced between $42.00 and $64.00 CAD but I’m not one to spend that much on bath products at once. For a cheaper and sweeter option, I suggest making your own Valentine’s Day Lush gift pack. Pick out a few products and than wrap them yourself with some chocolates and candy. Lush’s bath bombs and soaps range somewhere between 6 and 12 dollars so it’s a great way to save money.

For the little ones
I’m a firm believer that makeup application should begin in high school and never before. I wasn’t wearing makeup until I was 15 and discovered liquid eye liner. Before that I owned one lipstick, a blue balm type thing from Wet ‘n’ Wild that apparently changed colour with your mood. Good times.
Now, young girls have more options when it comes to innocent and fun beauty that doesn’t involve any brushes and pots.
If you live in Canada, and have a daughter, niece or any other little one on the list then you’re in luck. Head to The Bay’s bath and beauty department and look for the so-delicious-you-could-eat-it Open Sundaes display. The company makes beautiful and delicious treats with even more beautiful packaging in the shapes of honey bottles, cupcakes and more.
This Christmas, for my beautiful little cousin Mckaylie I’ll be picking up…
- Lemon Drop lip topping - $8.95
- Pink Sugar body scrub - $14.59
- Cocoa Bombs bite-sized bath bombs - $9.95
Open Sundaes products are available at most Bay locations as well as online. They’re products are adorable and all natural, and the perfect gift for any tweenage girl. Plus, you get the extra joy of supporting a local and independent company.
