Another birthday has come and gone and I have nothing to show for it, except of course for the pile of wonderful presents from my family in friends stacked in front of me. A copy of the Watchman, a little Tiffany from my boyfriend, and gift cards galore from my parents.
My brother, who is known for forgetting and then making a home made card during the cake cutting was surprisingly thoughtful and bought me the new Harajuku Lovers perfume “G.” And while I was never of fan of the Harajuku Lovers brand (even though I
love Harajuku girls) these perfumes are absolutly adorable and G surprisingly good smelling. “I did some research online” my brother said when he handed me the wrapped box. “And this was the scent that got five stars.”
I’ve smelled the other four fragrances in the set and I hated them. They smelled cheap and childish. But for some reason G stands out. The notes of Mandarin, Coconut, Apple Skin, Jasmine Sambac, Freesia, Magnolia, Coconut Cream, White Sandalwood and Cottonwood are warm, soft and milky yet at the same time very distinctive. Its the perfect fragrance for the crisp fall days we’re starting to have.
Harajuku Lovers Frargances are available at Shoppers Drug Mart (If you’re a Canadian) or Sephora for $45 USD.

Summer trend I hope sticks around: Scarves. Ah the scarf. It made breezy
summer dressing so easy. Too warm for a sweater but too chilly for just a tank top, put on a scarf! Outfit doesn’t look just right, hell just put on a scarf. Hungover and having a bad hair day? Put on a scarf and big sunnies and suddenly you’re Mary-Kate. So this fall I’m praying that the easy breezy scarf sticks around.
But just in case teh love quote goes out of style, I have been scoping out some fall and winter scarves and have come across a winner from H&M. Its grey (a perfect fall/winter colour), its knit, and its freaking huge. It’s also reasonably priced at $42 CAD. Throw on a little jacket, wrap this baby around you four or five times and you’re good to go.

Fall has finally reached Vancouver which means its time to pack up the linen shorts and espadrilles and start embracing sweater weather and all the new fall trends and start accepting that its going to raining for the next seven months. Here’s how I’m getting ready for fall.
My fall fashion resolution: To take more risks. My regular fashion palate consists of black, grey and white and occasionally oooh, navy. I don’t do patterns, except for the
occasional horizontal stripe and I almost never wear heels. This I’ve decided, has to change. This fall I’m going for brightly coloured opaque tights (I just picked up some red ones), statement jewelery, bright purple and sky high heels.
Yesterday I picked up a pair of slate grey platform mary jane’s fromAldo. They’re surprisingly comfortable for $90 CAD shoes and surprisingly trendy for shoes from Aldo, a company that more often than not puts out ya know, hooker shoes.
I’ve also been making a habit of tearing out the pages of fashion magazines and tacking them to a bulletin board in my room. It’s kind of an “inspiration board” as self-help as that sounds, and it works. Whenever I go shopping I consult the board and try to pick up one or two similar items.
Sally Hansen’s nail whitening pen is less of a pen and more of a water activated pencil that claims to enhance the natural whiteness of your nail tips. You dip the pencil in the water and then paint it underneath your nails.
Does it work? Yes, in a way. It does visibly brighten up your nails. But does it make them whiter? Not particularly.
Does it last? It lasts for about a day. But I’m a teacher and spend about eight hours a day writing, so the colour on my right hand wore off a lot faster than my left.
Is it worth it? Sure. It’s only $2.99 and gives your unpolished nails a little something extra for a night out when you don’t feel like putting any colour on them.
I live at home, but I spend most of my nights sleeping at my boyfriend’s apartment (okay its the spare room in his mom’s basement). Usually I head home in the mornings before I go to work or go run errands to wash up and put on my makeup, but sometimes I just don’t have time.
So what I decided to do was pack up the good makeup that I don’t wear anymore (usually just because I bought some new stuff) and keep the stash at my boyfriend’s pad for those days when I just don’t have time to come home first. I try to keep it light with just some Chanel powder foundation, Benefit Thrrrob blush, theBalm concealer and Benefit Bad Gal Lash. I also keep few perfume samples over there as well.
