Obsession: Q-Pot

Right now, I’m totally crazy about the Tokyo based accessories company Q-Pot. As many of you know, I have an unhealthy obsession with any type of jewelery that looks like food, especially candy.

Look at this adorable mint choco necklace. Doesn’t it make you want to die… in the best possible way?

Q-pot’s designer, Tadaaki Wakamatsu, makes his incredibly detailed pieces out of wax, and then casts them in metal to seal in the freshness, so to speak.

One exciting thing about this brand is a lot of the charms are totally customizable. On the main page of their store, there are a ton of hamburger ingredients including lettuce, tomato and cheese that you can mix together to create your perfect sandwich, or er necklace.

Unfortunately Q-Pot’s site and online store are totally in Japanese, so if you Katakana isn’t up to snuff you can head over to Via Alley to get your fix. Their selection isn’t as big, but they do sell a lot of my favourite pieces.

With a wide range of prices anywhere from $10 CAD to $500 CAD there’s something adorable for everyone.

Review: Caudalie Beauty Elixir

I have finally returned after a two week bout of the flu with a ton of products that need to be reviewed.

The first one I want to get to is Caudalie Beauty ElixirI first became interested in this product after it was used in my favourite look of NYFW Tarte for Abate, where it was used to create a “dewy glow.”

Because of my current uh, finanial situation, I usually wouldn’t spend any money on a bottle of what could be called glorified water, but I was feeling punchy after getting my new credit card and felt like I needed to make an online purchase.  Let me tell you though, I doubt I’ll be making any more online Sephora buys.  My tiny bottle of Beauty Elixir took over two weeks to get to my house and cost me triple the actual cost because of exorbitant cross border shipping fees.

The product itself though is awesome.  Sure, it’s just fancy water, but it does give my skin a nice glow, and it works great for setting my makeup.  I bought the tiny bottle because I’m a cheapskate, and it fits perfectly in my purse for dewy touchups during the day.
And I suspect that Beauty Elixir will be great for summer where the heat makes your makeup run down your face.
Caudalie Beauty Elixir is available at Sephora for $49 bones, or $15 for a tiny bottle, which I think is the better deal.

Neon Bible on CBC

Today was an exciting day in Neon Bible day. I was featured as a “fashion expert” on CBC Radio 3’s Fashion Fight Club episode. We talked about Vancouver’s fashion faux pas, and I continued to defend my UGG’s which are totally awesome by the way. Then there was some stuff about hobos. It’s actually a little disturbing how many times homeless people have come up during my radio career (few of you may remember the dreaded Devon Soltendieck interview *shudder*).

Luckily, Paul over at A Good Day for Airplay recorded my interview, so if you missed it, you can download it HERE

Do you agree with my picks for “fashion crimes?” Do you still hate UGG Boots even though they’re awesome?

Yup, this is straight up the ugliest coat I’ve seen possibly ever.  It’s like those animal backpacks I wore as a kid but about 20x worse.

One of my favourite times of the year is fast approaching… my mom’s annual trip to the great state of Nebraska aka. the week where she buys me stuff from Target and Bath and Body Works and I don’t have to pay her back!

So far on my list of not available in Canada products to get are:

L’Oreal Elnett Hairspray - I’ve looked everywhere in Vancouver and I can’t find this stuff. I’m pretty sure we don’t have it. Although I’m not usually a hairspray person, I am a sucker for people telling me what to buy.

Bare Escentules RareMinerals Blemish Therapy and Foundation - Okay, so yes there is one particular Shoppers downtown that sells Bare Escentules, and I could just restock my foundation there, but why pay for something you can get for free… from you mom? I’m really looking forward to trying this new Blemish Therapy. I rarely have any blemishes or blackheads, but when I do, I throw a fit. This may give me some piece of mind, although I hear it smells like a sulfur pile.

Bath & Body Works 3 for $10 Hand Soap - Obviously.

Fekkai Coiff Contrôle Ironless Straightening Blow-Out Balm
- While my skin is generally flawless my hair is as damaged as it gets. It’s dry, flat and the ends, oh the ends. I’m hoping this will help minimize some of the damage I continue to inflict on my sad strands.

Review: Benefit Coralista

Like any good Canadian girl, I’m obsessed with collecting Shoppers Optimum Points.  On Saturday Shoppers had a special points event where if you spent more than 50 bones you got *gasp* 20 times the points.  I of course spent my 50 on makeup, and finally picked up Benefit’s Coralista which I’ve been dying to try, and as a result, I now have enough points for $55 off my next Shoppers purchase!

Coralista is a pretty sweet blush.  It’s a coral pink (hence the name) full of little gold flecks that give your skin a great glow.  This blush goes on pretty thick though, so apply lightly.

It’s a pretty huge splurge at $35 CAD but it’s a shade that you can wear every day and don’t need a whole lot more makeup with, which is great for low maintainence people, like myself.  I have a feeling I’m going to be wearing this blush a lot during the summer.
Benefit is not the easiest brand to track down in Vancouver.  Most Shoppers only carry the basics, but the Dunbar location carries the full range of products.
